David Dunn Fitness Trail

The David Dunn Fitness Trail is located in King George V Park and was opened in March 2017.

Bonnyrigg and Lasswade Community Council named the fitness trail to honour David Dunn, a local man tragically killed in 1994 whilst courageously stopping an armed robbery at the Bank of Scotland in Bonnyrigg High Street.

In order to remember this incredible man, Community Councillor Bill MacDonald had a vision of creating a fitness trail for the entire community to benefit from. Many local community volunteers provided support for the project.

Bonnyrigg and Lasswade Community Council wanted to provide a fitness facility that the whole community could use, young and old, from fitness beginners to seasoned gym goers. ‘The fitness trail is aimed at both adults and children in order to help them get fit and stay fit.’

The trail was funded by Tesco, Bank of Scotland, Edinburgh Airport, Councillor Bob Constable’s local funding and the Coal Industry Social Welfare fund.

Fresh Air Fitness supplied and installed a 6-piece outdoor trim trail, which is maintained by Midlothian Council.

These videos describe the story of the fitness trail up to its opening on Sunday,5th March 2017.
