BDCC response to the proposal for Double Yellow Lines on Lothian Street

Further to the Council proposal to make a new Order to apply Double Yellow Line waiting restrictions along the length of the A6094 Lothian Street, Bonnyrigg between Douglas Crescent and Eldindean Road.
The proposal was discussed at the BDCC meeting on 13 April. Cllr Alexander said the proposal was the preferred option which would improve traffic flow and reduce delays to buses.
Members disagreed with this and said the proposal would displace cars to side streets where parking is already an issue, and the resulting increase in the speed of the traffic would create dangers for pedestrians. Lothian Street has a large pedestrian footfall especially at school times.
A motion objecting to the proposed Order and suggesting an alternative proposal was discussed and agreed. Details of the objection and revised proposal can be viewed at the following link:
