Junction at Bonnyrigg High Street

The Council is looking into the traffic situation in Bonnyrigg High Street, specifically to look at the situation where traffic is backed up due to waiting on vehicles attempting to turn right at the traffic lights on to Polton Street (which causes traffic wishing to turn left on to Lothian Street or go straight ahead on to Dundas Street to back up along the High Street).

One proposal is to create a new lane at the traffic lights (similar to what exists at the crossroads on the Lothian Street side) where traffic wishing to turn left or go straight ahead are given the space to do so, whereas all traffic turning right can wait in their own lane.

The benefit will be to increase traffic flow and reduce congestion along the High Street. The drawbacks will be that the extended footpaths at the traffic lights on the High Street will have to be reduced and some parking spaces will no longer be available outside some of the businesses.

We would therefore like your opinion on this matter and would value your input on the details which are contained in the attached .pdf file. If you wish to comment please email your comments to bonnyriggdistrictcc@gmail.com
